Troyer, Betty Miller
June 19, 1940 - March 28, 2022
Betty (Miller) Troyer age 81 of Goshen, passed away at her home on the evening of March 28, [2022] surrounded by family. She was born June 19, 1940, in Goshen, to Joe E.J.K. & Ida (Troyer) Miller. On Dec. 13, 1959, in Middlebury, she married Harley D. Troyer; he preceded her in death on December 11, 2017.
Surviving are three sons, Jim (Shirley) Troyer and Jerry (Corine) Troyer, both of Goshen and Steve (Heidi) Troyer of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Cindy (Allen) Eash of Middlebury and Rose (Jason) Yoder of Bristol; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Fran (Wayne) Miller of Sarasota, Florida; three brothers, Wayne (Pam) Miller, of Sarasota, Dean Miller of Bend, Oregon and Dale Miller of Goshen; a sister-in-law, Tove Miller Bend, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a grandson, Benjamin "Benji" Eash; a sister Edna Godshell; two brothers, Atlee Jay and Glenn Miller.
Betty chose to follow Jesus at an early age and was baptized at the age of 14. She was a member of Living Hope Fellowship in Goshen.
She served beside her husband, who was pastor of Griner Mennonite Church, for 40 years. She spent much time caring for the congregation through various way, including visiting and hosting many people in their home. She was also involved in Women's ministries, writing Bible lessons and leading Bible Studies. During this time and while raising their children, she also began and built a home business which helped sustain her till her last breath. After her mother's passing, she became the caregiver of her handicapped brother Dale and cared for him as long as she was physically able.
She was a homemaker, a mother & grandmother and opened up her heart and home to friends, family and many guests over the years. She loved tending her beautiful flower gardens and hosting garden parties. She also had lots of fun playing table games with her friends, children & grandchildren, and was quite the competitor.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, April 1, at Griner Church, 12418 CR 20 Middlebury. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Saturday, April 2, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastors Jason Miller, Josh Berkshire and Mike Troyer. Burial will be in Griner Cemetery, Middlebury.

January 22, 1955 - April 5, 2022
Ella Troyer passed away April 5, 2022 at the West View Healthy Living. Born to the late Abe and Sarah Troyer on January 22 1955 in Fredericksburg Ohio.
She is survived by a son Kaden. Step mother Catherine Troyer, Moundridge Kansas. Siblings, Paul and Mary Troyer Wooster Ohio, Clara Coblentz Jeromesville Ohio, Ada and Dave Lehman Jeromesville, Wayne and Jerelyn Troyer Galva, Kansas, Willis and Cyndi Troyer, Apple Creek.
Those gone on before are her parents Abe and Sarah Troyer and a brother Myron Troyer.
Calling hrs are Saturday evening from 6 to 8 at the Scenic Ridge Mennonite Church 2053 St Rt 89 Jeromesville. Funeral services Sunday morning at 10:30. The family appreciates the care she received at West View Healthy Living. Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville assisted the family with arrangements.

March 30, 1937 - December 15, 2022
Emanuel L. Troyer 85, of 7540 TR 666, Dundee, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 15, 2022 after a period of declining health. He was born on March 30, 1937 to the late Levi A. C. and Fannie (Miller) Troyer. On October 7, 1962 he married Katie Ann Miller who survives. Emanuel was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church where he was ordained as minister in 1971 and later as bishop in 1982.
In addition to his wife Katie he is survived by his children, Stephen (Katie) Troyer, Esther Fern Troyer, Nathan (Janet) Troyer all of Dundee, Ruth Ann (Roy) Schlabach of Millersburg, Anna Marie (Michael) Hershberger of Millersburg, Levi (Rebecca) Troyer of Dundee, Miriam (Aden) Miller of Dundee, Ada Mae (David) Weaver of Willisburg, KY, Joseph (Emily) Troyer of the home; 32 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Noah (Mary) Troyer of Millersburg, Monroe (Katie) Troyer of Dundee, Levi (Elsie) Troyer of Dundee, Reuben (Linda) Troyer of Millersburg, Raymond (Dorothy) Troyer of Goshen, IN, Fannie (Nelson) Weaver of Dundee, Edna (Atlee) Schlabach of Dundee, Ada (Nelson) Miller of Millersburg; and brothers-in-law, Jake Graber, Henry Miller and John (Edna) Yoder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Allen and daughter, Rebecca; a grandson, Michael Schlabach; brothers and sisters, Katie (Aden) Wengerd, Abe (Mary) Troyer, Mary Miller, Clara Yoder and Adrian Troyer.
Funeral services will be held at the home on Saturday, December 17, at 9:00 AM with Bishop Leon Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Troyer Cemetery located on the family farm. Ida A. Troyer 90, of 7503 TR 652, Millersburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 after a period of declining health. She was born in Holmes County on October 9, 1932 to the late Andy M. and Sarah J. (Schlabach) Miller. On November 5, 1953 she married Atlee J. Troyer who preceded her in death on October 21, 2019. Ida was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
She is survived by her nine children, Andy (Dora) Troyer of Millersburg, Anna (Myron) Miller of Dundee, Dan (Katie Mae) Troyer of Millersburg, Roy (Marie) Troyer of Fresno, Lydiann (Andy) Weaver of Millersburg, Aden (Mary) Troyer of Millersburg, Sara (Daniel) Kauffman of Millersburg, Atlee Jr. (Fannie) Troyer of the home, Joe (Mary) Troyer of Dundee; 43 grandchildren; 118 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Lydiann Weaver, Jonas (Nettie) Miller, Paul (Mabel) Miller, Andy (Katie) Miller; and sister-in-law, Anna Miller.

Iva E. Troyer, 87, of 10459 Harrison Road, Apple Creek, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on March 22, 2022 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Wayne County on February 4, 1935 to the late Eli and Emma (Miller) Troyer and married Menno R. Troyer on June 16, 1987. He died on November 17, 2007.
Iva was a homemaker and member of the Old Order Amish Church.
She is survived by her step-children, Abe (Emma) Troyer of Fredericksburg, Fannie M. Troyer of the home, the late Jacob M. (Amanda) Troyer of Howard, Lizzie M. Troyer of the home, Amanda (David) Miller of the home and Dan (Anna) Troyer of Millersburg; 34 step-grandchildren; 241 step-great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Eli (Nettie) Troyer of Apple Creek, and David (Miriam) Troyer of Fredericksburg; sister-in-law Ella (the late Levi) Troyer of Fredericktown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by step-son, Jacob; brothers, Atlee (Effie) Troyer, Melvin (Fannie) Troyer, Levi Troyer, and Dan (Edna) Troyer; sister, Dena (Wyman) Miller.

Troyer, John Lowell
September 6, 1938 - November 25, 2022
Longtime Engadine resident, Pastor John Lowell Troyer, 84, died Friday evening November 25, 2022 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital.
Born September 6, 1938 in LaGrange, Indiana, son of the late Pastor Clarence and Wavia Troyer, John married the former Lola Maxine Davis in Germfask and was a graduate of Goshen College receiving a degree in elementary education.
John taught school at Engadine and Germfask for twelve years and, in 1975, left teaching to be a Pastor. He was active in his church and community serving on many boards and committees throughout his life He was involved and was a leader of summer Bible School for many years. He loved and cared for people, welcoming them into his home, and was always helpful and generous. John would do anything for anyone. Pastor John’s 30-year career in ministry included pastoring at the Wildwood Mennonite Church and the Curtis Community Church. During this time, he also operated a farm for many years and was a deliveryman for the Soo Evening News and Marquette Mining Journal for ten years. His hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing, going to the fair, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and always greeting them with a hug at half court win or lose.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his siblings Calvin Troyer, Lois Miller and Jim Troyer; brother-in-law James Shaum.
Survivors include his loving wife, Maxine; children Lowell (Cheryl) Troyer of Union, Ronda (Bill) Eickholt of Middlebury, Indiana, Johnny (Susie) Troyer of Engadine, Joan (Steve) Wagner of Findley, Ohio, Lori Troyer of Engadine, Roberta (Greg) Moore of Curtis, Patti Troyer of Painesville, Ohio and Steven Troyer of Litchfield Park, Arizona; grandchildren Travis (Amber) Troyer, Nick (Alicia) Troyer, Andy (Stephanie) Eickholt, Stephanie Eickholt, Wendy (Matt) Reinward, Krystal (Brian) Ng, J.J. (Lauren) Troyer, Heather (Ethan) Thomma, Kayla (T.J.) Brooks, Zach (Jasmine) Cameron, Rebecca Cameron, Brooke Moore, Katie Moore, Jacob Stefan, Lucas Stefan and Leah Stefan; great-grandchildren Adria, Hudson, Drew, Reed, Asher, Fay, Caleb, Georgi, Evan, McKenna, Bella, Marcus, Cooper, Ellie, Hunter, Emmett, Laney, Luke and Myles; siblings Esther Shaum of Engadine, Janice (Bill) Wagner of Engadine, Ken Troyer of Engadine and Stan (Marilyn) Troyer of Niles; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday December 2, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Curtis Baptist Church. Funeral services celebrating the life of Pastor John will be held Saturday December 3, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Curtis Baptist Church with Pastor Ray White officiating. Interment will take place at the Sandtown Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Curtis Baptist Church in his loving memory.

Troyer, Katie C. Miller
March 12, 1932 - October 14, 2022
Katie C. Troyer, 90, of Goshen, formerly of Fairview, Michigan, passed away, Friday, October 14, 2022 at Goshen Hospital.
She was born March 12, 1932 in Johnson, County, Iowa, near Kalona, the 14th of 15 children born to Clemens C.B. Miller and Mattie J. (Miller) Miller.
The family moved to Elkhart County in 1936 where she lived through her teen years, accepting Jesus as her savior and was baptized in the conservative Mennonite church. At age 21 Katie moved to Flint, Michigan and worked in voluntary service for three years.
It was there that she met and married Lloyd D. Troyer. After his 1-W service, they moved to Fairview, Michigan, where they lived for more than 50 years.
Katie was an active member of Fairview Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and served on all kinds of food committees. She also worked as a cook at AuSable Valley Nursing Home for 21 years. Katie returned to Goshen in 2014 where she was an active member of Benton Mennonite Church and volunteering at Greencroft Retirement community.
Katie was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being with family, making meals, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Her special projects included piecing and hand sewing quilts that she would donate to Mennonite Central Committee.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Lorna Troyer of Goshen, and Lunette (Ray) Caples of Middlebury; a daughter-in-law, Syrena Troyer of Fairview, Michigan; six grandchildren, Chad (Bridgette) Troyer, Alyssa Caples, Cody Troyer, Boomer (Anna) Caples, Kelcie (Brent) Rose, and Janae (Caleb) Hall; and four great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Along with her parents and husband, Katie was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Troyer, a son, Lyle Troyer, and all of her siblings.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. An 11 a.m. funeral service with viewing 1 hour prior, will be conducted Thursday, October 20, at Benton Mennonite Church, 15350 C.R. 44, Goshen. Pastor Doug Kaufman will officiate.
Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan at a later date.

Mattie B. Troyer, 90, of 9271 SR 241, Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Holmes County on July 25, 1932 to the late Benjamin D. and Mattie (Miller) Kauffman and on December 6, 1951 she married Nelson A. Troyer. He died on July 27, 2006.
She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
She is survived by her 7 children, Marvin (Mary) Troyer, and David (Mary) Troyer both of Fredericksburg, Nelson Jr. (Iva) Troyer of the home, Esther (late Dan L.) Hershberger of Millersburg, Abe (Mattie) Troyer, Edna (Atlee E.) Mast, and Ivan (Susie) Troyer all of Fredericksburg; 72 grandchildren; 375 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-granchildren; sisters-in-law, Emma Kauffman, Verba Borntrager, and Fannie Miller.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 6 brothers; 4 sisters; 1 son-in-law, Dan L. Hershberger; 1 grandchild; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Noah J. Troyer 91, of 5525 Evans Creek Road SW, Sugarcreek, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 19, 2022 after a period of declining health. He was born on January 8, 1931 to the late Jonas M. and Katie (Troyer) Troyer. On November 12, 1953 he married Edna Mae Troyer who preceded him in death on June 21, 2013. Noah was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church where he was ordained as minister in 1968 and later as bishop.
He is survived by his children, Betty (Emery) Beachy of Baltic, Mary (Henry) Miller of Sugarcreek, Esther (Gideon) Raber of Baltic, David (Mary) Troyer of Walhonding, Naomi (Firman) Yoder of Beach City, Reuben (Mary) Troyer of Beach City; 33 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; sister Mary J. (Roy) Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mattie (John) Hershberger.
In addition to his parents and his wife Edna, he was preceded in death by his 2 great-grandchildren, Kristina Troyer, Evan Allen Miller; siblings, Eli (Katie) Troyer, Mose (Mabel) Troyer, Fannie (Jonas) Troyer and Alma Troyer.

Raymond B. Troyer 69, of 2131 TR 175, Baltic, passed away in a tragic vehicle-bicycle accident on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. He was born on March 14, 1953 to the late Ben A. D. and Anna (Troyer) Troyer. On March 19, 1974 he married Katie M. Miller who survives. Raymond was employed at Pleasant Valley Poultry in Baltic and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and will be dearly missed. He most of all loved spending time with his family, as well as being in the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing with the grandkids.
In addition to his wife Katie he is survived by his children, Olen (Tracy) Troyer of Stonecreek, Judy (Roy) Yoder of Millersburg, Emma (Ervin) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Nora (Anthony) Mast of Millersburg, Ben Troyer of North Canton, Ruth (Atlee) Weaver of the home, Duane (Jaquee) Troyer of Hartville, Eddie (Yvonne) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Ivan (Jamie) Troyer of La Paz, IN; 26 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mary (Phil) Carter of Reynoldsburg, Susie (John) Miller of Holmesville, Albert (Sara Sue) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Esther (late Noah) Coblentz of Manton, MI; and sister-in-law, Mary (late Robert) Troyer of Millersburg.

December 24, 1982 - December 15, 2022
Wayne F. Troyer 39, of Baltic, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, December 15, 2022. He was born on December 24, 1982 to the late Floyd E. and Mary S. (Troyer) Troyer. Wayne was employed at Charm Pizza and was a member of United Dayspring Mennonite in Berlin.
He is survived by his three brothers, Norman (Erma) Troyer of Millersburg, Reuben (Mary) Troyer of Berlin, David (Marianne) Troyer of Millersburg; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Aaron Jay Troyer.
Funeral services will be held at United Dayspring Mennonite, 4955 W Main St, Millersburg, on Sunday, December 18, at 2:00 PM with Pastor John Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in the Berlin Twp. Community Cemetery. Friends may call at United Dayspring Mennonite from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Saturday.

Umble, Charles L.
November 5, 1951 - October 28, 2022
Charles L. Umble, 70, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. Born in West Chester, he was the loving son of the late Samuel K. and Cora L. Hertzler Umble. Charles grew up at Maple Grove Mennonite Church but recently attended Grace Point Church in Paradise. He is survived by his 3 daughters: Kim Mann, fiancé of Greg Eby of Willow Street, Kelly, wife of Ali Mithaiwala of Chandler, Az, and Kerry, wife of Bryant Guilford of Atglen. He was the proud ‘PopPop’ of 1 granddaughter and 6 grandsons. Residing in New Holland is Charles’ sister, Lena Mae Stoltzfus, wife of Larry Martin. Charlie enjoyed riding his Harley, playing golf, watching anything his grandchildren were involved in, and all the local Philadelphia teams. Go Phillies! Despite his many health issues, he always kept his positive outlook and never complained. We would like to thank all of health care providers over the years for all of care and kindness.
A memorial service will take place at Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, on Thursday, November 3rd, at 7 p.m. with a time to greet the family from 6-7 p.m. Seth Fisher will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to American Kidney Fund.
VanPelt, Arthur W.
January 3, 1930 - June 18, 2022
COLUMBIANA – Arthur W. VanPelt, 92, traded time for Eternity early Saturday morning, June 18, 2022. He was born January 3, 1930, the son of the late Franklin Lee and Ida (Witmer) VanPelt. Arthur accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth and strove to live his life in obedience to Jesus' teachings. He was a faithful member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years.
On October 8, 1955 Arthur married Anna Ruth Showalter. She preceded him in death on November 28, 1999. He then married Viola Mae Snyder on March 29, 2002. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2018.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters Rosanna (Jerry) Martin of Sheldon, WI and Reba (Lloyd Jr.) VanPelt of Columbiana; six sons James (Eugenia), Dwight, Nathan (Charlotte), Lawrence (Lucy), Norman (Marilyn), all of Columbiana, and Sam (Sheila) of Leetonia; 44 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren; two sisters Alice Helmuth of Sarasota, FL and Mary Good of Columbiana; two brothers Willard (Charlene) of Pequea, PA and Albert (Lana) of Columbiana.
Also preceding Arthur in death was a sister Elsie VanPelt and two brothers Perry and Jacob; and a great-grandson Michael Byers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, 549 Chestnut Street Ext., Leetonia, OH 44431. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 10:00 am, also at Mt. Joy Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church Cemetery. COLUMBIANA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Rebecca Alice (Lehman) VanPelt, 82, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, September 19, 2022 at her home with her loving family around her.
Rebecca was born on September 27, 1939 in Dayton, Virginia, a daughter of Lester and Margaret (Beery) Lehman.
She was a faithful member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.
She was well known for her baked goods. She was a hard worker, canning, gardening and embroidering quilts for all 28 of her grandchildren. Rebecca was a wonderful wife and mother and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
She leaves her husband, Wayne VanPelt, whom she married May 27, 1967; children, Marlene (Paul) Weaver of Amelia, Virginia, Sandra (Lamar) Weaver of Salem, Ohio, Debra (LaRoy) Weaver of Polk, Ohio, Keith (Janelle) VanPelt and Martha (Brent) Rhodes, all of Columbiana and Margaret VanPelt of Canfield; 28 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and sister, Eunice Lehman of Dayton, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Ivan and Lester Lehman and grandson, Jonathan Weaver.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, 549 Chestnut Street Ext, Leetonia with the Pleasant View Ministry officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Mt. Joy Mennonite Church. Friends may also call one hour before the service, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22.

Voran, Marilyn Helmuth
December 3, 1930 - April 17, 2022
Marilyn Helmuth Voran, 91, of Goshen died peacefully on April 17, 2022, in her home with the loving presence of her sister and dear friends. She was born December 3, 1930 to Naomi (Oesch) and Atlee Helmuth at Aurora, Ohio.
Marilyn graduated from Aurora High School in 1948 and Goshen College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics Education. After graduation she taught at Aurora (Ohio) High School. On August 19, 1956 she married Melvin Voran, whom she met during a summer voluntary service assignment in Gulfport, Mississippi. They settled in Goshen, Indiana where Melvin was attending college. There she taught at Bethany Christian High School for three years. After that she enjoyed being a “stay at home Mom” with their three children. Later, Marilyn worked with the Mennonite Central Committee Goshen office writing and teaching about world hunger issues. She also served with the Archives of the Mennonite Church.
Marilyn had a deep appreciation for nature, and especially enjoyed bird watching and family travel to National Parks and other scenic places. She also loved to create beauty--through the visual arts, soul-nurturing indoor and outdoor spaces, and the written word. She was always sustained by her spirituality and faith. These values she generously shared with her family and friends. Many persons hold vivid and fond memories of Marilyn’s presence in their lives through her teaching, worship planning, spiritual direction, writing, hospitality, cooking, intellect, and wit.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Miriam (Andrew Faunce) Voran of West Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Laurel (Dave Diller) Voran of Empire, Michigan; her son, Stephen (Gwen Grasse) Voran of Boulder, Colorado; her sister, Kathleen (John Hanson) Hartzler of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers, Harlan Helmuth of Aurora, Ohio and Keith (Ellen Slabaugh) Helmuth of Debec, New Brunswick, Canada; and granddaughter Elleanna Voran of Boulder, Colorado.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will take place Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 10 a.m., at College Mennonite Church, where Marilyn was a member. Memorial gifts can be made to Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Mennonite Central Committee, or College Mennonite Church.
